Colaiste Dun Iascaigh 3 Tramore 1
Last Thursday our under 16 team provided the school with another cup by winning the South East cup in convincing fashion against Tramore. Our lads started the stronger of the 2 teams with Dylan Fitzgerald and Kenny Cunningham both coming close in the opening minutes. The opening finally came when Irish international Cian Murphy raced through the Tramore defence and finished with aplomb with a shot that nestled in the right corner of the net. Ryhs Byron saw a fine shot go narrowly wide and Dawid Jaros Karnia made the keeper make a fine save soon after.
The Cahir team then seemed to rest on their laurels and the Tramore side started to grow into the game. Just before the final whistle they got the equaliser they deserved after a lapse in concentration in our defence.
The Cahir team came out in the second half fully focused and used all their experience of having played in two Munster finals and an All-Ireland final to get the upper hand in this contest. Sean Murphy and Simon Farrell were marshalling the defence. Cian Murphy was playing like a man possessed and Kieran Lambert started pulling the strings in midfield. Again it was our captain Cian Murphy who powered through to rifle a shot past the hapless keeper on the 50th minute. From here on in we took full control coming close to getting a third on a number of occasions. Man of the match Murphy had a header that hit the cross bar and David Murphy came close with a similar header. Finally David Jaros with his trade mark skill made it 3.1 with 15 minutes to go. Cahir could have easily won by more with Dylan Flynn coming close near the end.
This team has now won a major trophy in every year since they began in the school and this is helped by the commitment of the strong squad we have. Next year we hope to put in a strong performance in the under 17 Munster and All Ireland competition.
